A UNITED HEART
"Teach me Your way, O Lord;
I will walk in Your truth;
Unite my heart to fear Your name.
12 I will praise You, O Lord my God, with all my heart,
And I will glorify Your name forevermore." Psalm 86:11-12 NKJV
There is much division in our society today. We especially notice how inconsistent our culture is with the values that the Bible espouses. We mourn and grieve over the disparity. We can even find that people at church disagree over certain issues.
But, what about in our own hearts and minds? We don't have to look hard to find inconsistencies within ourselves. The psalmist, as we read in the verses above, makes some wonderful requests followed by some remarkable vows to the Lord. The first one is "Teach me Your way, O Lord;". This request reflects humility on the part of the one asking. I think we should always be asking this of the Lord. Notice that it's followed by the commitment to walk in God's truth, in other words, to obey His ways. The second part of the prayer is, "Unite my heart to fear Your name". This request has to do with integrity. It's like asking, "Lord, make every part of me: every thought, every word, every action reflect the fact that I am in awe of You". Following this, the psalmist makes the commitment to praise and glorify God forever with this miraculously united being. This world would be a much better place with followers of Jesus with such united hearts.
Love in Christ Jesus,
Pastor Mark
